Biography
Mara R. Livezey joined the faculty of Detroit Mercy as an instructor of Chemistry in 2018, and as assistant professor of Biochemistry in 2019. As a native Michigander, Livezey was drawn back to Michigan for her career, and stayed because of the impact of the Detroit Mercy mission, values and connection to the surrounding community. Livezey primarily teaches undergraduate biochemistry lectures and laboratory. She periodically teaches a class for non-majors on how drugs work and organic chemistry laboratory.
Livezey's research interests span both bench science and pedagogy. Her research group focuses on projects that aim to understand cell death mechanisms to target and eliminate breast cancer. She also collaborates with colleagues to understand how students experience vertically-integrated course-based undergraduate research opportunities as well as alternative grading.
